II shot this photograph about three years ago, but to this day it remains my favourite Jai Mala shot of all time (from my body of work). As you can see, I managed to get myself a chair out of nowhere and stand on it. Nisha, the bride, looks pleasantly surprised and completely elated. A sort of literal top of the world. What I love most about this shot, however, is that for this one bit of frozen time, all the people you can see in the picture are immersed in this one moment.

The Jai Mala is always a very challenging part of an Indian wedding to shoot. There is an adrenaline surge from the friends and family and everything just happens in a jiffy. Being present, being aware and getting into a zen zone is key to be able to win at it.
